 LOVA/Marjan Rens MA Thesis Award 2019

On this past Friday, LOVA celebrated 40 years of existence and with it awarded four theses, instead of three, for the LOVA/Marjan Rens MA thesis award. The award ceremony took place at the end of the LOVA Study Day, on Leiden University, and the awards were handed by Prof. Willy Jansen, Emeritus Professor of Radboud University.

  1. Nika Looman (awarded 3º price), anthropology master student at Radboud University, Nijmegen.  Author of the thesis project: Everyday Genderqueerness: Negotiating Dominant Notions of Dutch Citizenship through Everyday Practices in a Binary Gendered Society.
  2. Isadora Cardoso Vasconcelos (awarded 4º price), anthropology master student at Maastricht University. Author of the thesis project:Gender and Climate Change in Pathways of Development Encounters of National Policies with Gender Justice and Climate Justice.
  3. Prof. Willy Jansen, Emeritus Professor of Radboud University, member of the jury community of the award.
  4. Loes Oudenhuijsen (awarded 1º price), anthropology master student at Leiden University. Author of the thesis project:’You Have to Know How to Play, Otherwise They Will Catch You’  Young Women and the Navigation of Same-Sex Intimacies in Contemporary Urban Senegal.
  5. Dr. Marina de Regt, assistant professor at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Member of the jury community and chair of the LOVA board.
  6. Melody Jap (awarded 2º price), anthropology master student at University of Amsterdam. Author of the thesis project: Women Against Feminism: A Qualitative Research into the Understanding of Modern Western Anti-Feminism in the Context of an Online Community.
